Delightfully fruited, sweet, and clean. These are common descriptors for any coffee we have the pleasure of roasting from Kayon Mountain and why we are super excited to have this coffee as part of our lineup!
This coffee was grown on the Kayon Mountain Coffee Farm located in the Oromia region of East Guji. The farm is owned by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family who have been farming there since 2012. Ismael has a staff of 25 permanent full-time and 300 seasonal employees. There is a nearby mining village that the farm competes with for seasonal employees so Ismael tends to pay higher wages to the pickers to incentivize their yearly return. Additionally, they provide transportation and financial support for building schools and administration buildings for the community.
Ismael and his family are meticulous about how the farm functions from overall management to the harvesting and processing itself. They have a nursery on-site, fertilize naturally with their own compost, and utilize indigenous trees for providing shade to the coffee plants.
This is a coffee for the folks that love fruit and florals in the cup. We taste apricot, jasmine, and huckleberry but there are other delicious fruity flavors waiting to be discovered with each new brew!
