This offering comes from the Testi Ayla Washing Station which serves about 375 smallholder farmers in the village of Bombe in Sidama, near the Bombe Mountain. Producers here own an average of 2.5 hectares.
Sidama produces some of the highest grade coffees in Ethiopia, and a lot of them. The fertile highlands of the region are surrounded by rivers and lakes that combined with the high elevation result in fertile soil and cool weather. Add to that 100 inches of rainfall per year and the coffee in the region tends to ripen slower than other areas of the country, resulting in sweet, clean coffees that are a treat to drink.
This particular washed coffee is a unique offering from Sidama with familiar florals that mingle with hints of cooked apple and cola.
