This coffee was grown on the Kayon Mountain Coffee Farm located in the Oromia region of East Guji. The farm is owned by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family who have been farming there since 2012. Ismael has a staff of 25 permanent full-time and 300 seasonal employees. There is a nearby mining village that the farm competes with for seasonal employees so Ismael tends to pay higher wages to the pickers to incentivize their yearly return. Additionally, they provide transportation and financial support for building schools and administration buildings for the community.
Ismael and his family are meticulous about how the farm functions from overall management to the harvesting and processing itself. They have a nursery on-site, fertilize naturally with their own compost, and utilize indigenous trees for providing shade to the coffee plants.
While naturally-processed Ethiopian coffees are often distinct in their fruit-like flavors, this coffee in particular is a beautiful example of a sweet and sugary fruit bomb that is also insanely clean. With an amazingly enjoyable amount of strawberry and watermelon notes this coffee is about as close to liquid candy as you can get without adding sugar! If you enjoy naturally processed coffees be sure to give this offering a try.
