This coffee was grown by Jose Edgardo Gutierrez on his farm Finca San Nicolas in Chalatenango. Jose is the son of Ignacio Gutierrez, whose coffee we were lucky enough to have a small selection of last year. It shared the same label gradient and you may remember it for its delectable notes of strawberry jelly donuts.
This microlot consists entirely of the Pacamara variety which is known for its large beans and frequent domination of the El Salvador Cup of Excellence, often at the entry of the Gutierrez family themselves. Both Ignacio and Jose are frequent competitors in the Cup of Excellence, a competition style auction where farmers bring their best coffees. The highest-scoring selections are awarded with the COE and sold at auction, often for very high prices. The Gutierrez family has won the COE three separate times with Pacamaras from their three farms, Finca San Nicolas, Finca Los Positos, and Finca La Roxanita.
We are super excited to have another beautiful coffee from the Gutierrez family back in the line up. This coffee is big on jammy flavors of grape and cranberry with a slight hint of fruit-forward wine. It's a delectable dessert-like cup that we hope you enjoy as much as we do! This small run won't be around long so snag a bag quick if you enjoyed Ignacio's coffee last year!
