Kenyan coffees are striking. Many of us can remember our first time experiencing the brash acidity, ripe fruit, and rich sugar notes offered by the coffees of this country. While many Kenyan coffees do offer this sort of experience, we have perhaps been too general in our categorization of their flavor profiles, partly due to a lack of digging in to what the various counties have to offer.
Cafe Imports recently noticed this lack of attention and started a new regional select program strictly for Kenyan coffees. This coffee was sourced through Cafe Import's Uteuzi Jimbo program, Swahili for "county select," in collaboration with exporter Dormans. Focusing in on the counties of Nyeri, Mt. Elgon, Kirinyaga, and Embu they hope to profile what each region has to offer.
Sourced from the Embu region just to the east of Mt. Kenya, this coffee offers a surprisingly balanced acidity level, loads of sweetness, a heavy mouthfeel, and big notes of caramel apple, brown sugar, and tropical fruit. We've been seriously enjoying this special coffee and hope you are as excited as us to explore new Kenyan flavor profiles.
